Singers can apply for one of four choral scholarships for the year. Choral scholars attend weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evenings 7.15pm-9.30pm in term time, in addition to around four performances a year.
The scholarships are open to singers aged 18-30, or students in full or part time music education. They are ideal for aspiring professional singers wishing to develop their choral singing and sight-reading and as a means of broadening repertoire knowledge.
Scholarships run for a year and can commence at any point in the season and are worth £1000. There will be occasional solo/quartet/semi chorus opportunities, and also a chance for the scholars to receive coaching from the choir’s superb Musical Director.
It is expected that choral scholars will mentor our younger choral apprentices, take an active role with social media for the ensemble, and generally support the endeavours of Bristol Choral Society.
Interested singers are welcome to join us for a trial rehearsal.
If would like to apply please download further information and an application form. Completed forms should be emailed to chair@bristolchoral.co.uk.

Emily Nunns – Soprano Scholar
I held a soprano choral scholarship with BCS. The scholarship allowed me to sing a range of music on a weekly basis, assist in rehearsals and sing in at some fantastic venues. I recently sang with the choir on a recording for Radio 3 and have performed solos as part of the Come and Sing events.
The scholarship bridges the gap between amateur to professional solo and choral singing whilst giving me opportunities to learn new music and develop my technique. I read Music at Newcastle University and studied voice at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock, Germany. I held a choral scholarship in Newcastle for the duration of my degree and performed as a singer and instrumentalist in the North East. Since moving to Bristol, I’ve sung regularly as a soloist and with other music groups and enjoy a career in both performing and teaching.
