Members of BCS and Hannover Oratorientchor rehearsing in Bristol Beacon

On Saturday June 29th, Bristol Beacon and the Bristol Choral Society played host to a remarkable choir from Hannover, with whom Bristol has been twinned since 1947.  Only three years after D-Day, this relationship has lasted 77 years!  Music and peace making are at the heart of our concert, which features Howells’ Hymnus Paradisi, as well as music by other English composers.

Hannover enjoys the title of City of Music and this has played an important part in the relationship. Bristol Choral Society exchanged visits with Hannoverscher Oratorienchor on the 50th and 75th anniversaries of the partnership.

We were delighted to be joined by Councillor Andrew Varney, current Lord Mayor and Ann Kennard, Chair of the Bristol Hannover Council.
