Some of the choir members enjoy a chilly walking tour of the old city

In April 46 members of the choir, Musical Director Hilary Campbell, organist Jonny Davis and soprano Lucy de Butts plus 18 suppoters and guests travelled by various means (air, sea, rail) to Latvia for a choir tour.
Based in Riga we gave two concerts one in the Catholic Church of Sigulda, a town north of Riga and one in St John's in the old city.

Our first day we had the chance to see something of the old city, all in close proximity to our hotel. Two walking tours took place with guides who gave very interesting insights to the incredible history, others had a wander independently with us all exchanging our adventures warming up in the bar later!

Our first concert took place in Sigulda a town about an hours drive north of Riga, again another tour and excellent guides took us around the town and to visit the national park and two of the four castles in the area. The concert took place in the modern catholic church in Segulda. Following an afternoon rehearsal with the usual challenges and some less usual, we held our concert to a full and enthusistic audience.

The following day our second concert was back in Riga in the splendid St John's Church in the heart of the old city. A completely different space to sing in. Once more the choir rose to the challenge and performed to another appreciative audience. An amazing experience!

After the concert we finished off the trip with a group meal followed by the obligatory party, with singing around the piano. All agreed it was an excellent and successful tour, brilliantly organised by our choir member Sarah Fenandes. To quote "we had a lovely time getting to know people"; "a memorable trip"; "the concerts were a joy"; "a brilliant final night party".
