The choir hosts regular Come and Sing events which are open to any singer. Singers from within and outside the choir get together for a fun music making afternoon with our conductor Hilary Campbell, accompanist Steven Kings and often other professional singers, including our Choral Scholars for any solo pieces.
The ability to read music is recommended but not essential and over the past few years we have tackled such pieces as Will Todd’s Mass in Blue, Choruses from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man. Even during the pandemic we had a Stay and Sing via Zoom and sang John Rutter’s Magnificat. There are two rehearsal periods, with a break, finishing with a rendition of the work at the end of the afternoon. We will provide scores and refreshments! Hilary’s dynamic and inspiring leadership is guaranteed to make for a very enjoyable singing day and performance.
Our next Come & Sing will be the chance to spend an afternoon exploring Bob Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass. Composed in 2004 it manages to bring together two diverse traditions in a highly original and effective setting.
Led by our dynamic Musical Director Hilary Campbell and accompanied by Steve Kings it's bound to be another great afternoon of music!
